A Moment In Wine Show 421 – El Guardian Sauvignon Blanc Chile 2017

Happy fall!  Today we are traveling to Chile, tasting one of the most widely planted grape variety in the world, Sauvignon Blanc. Originally started in the Loire Valley and Bordeaux Regions of France, this grape has found home all over the world – New Zealand, United States, as far north as Canada, Africa, South America, Italy, and Spain – it seems to reflect the location of where it is grown.   It reveals itself in many different styles depending on where it is grown and how the winemaker handles the grape.

The wine we are tasting today is from the central valley of Chile, winery El Guardian vintage 2017.  In the glass, the color is golden, straw or hay colored.  A very nice nose – it’s refreshing, white peaches and a little orange – like a creamsicle.

Tasting the wine, this is more full-bodied than many Sauvignon Blanc’s.  The taste is lime, citrus, peaches, reminding me of a freshly mowed lawn.  The finish is lovely with a soft velvety finish, not quite as acidic as some Sauvignon Blanc.

Pair this with just about anything on a nice warm day, something with rosemary, or cilantro.  I’m thinking a roasted, herb crusted chicken.

About Fred Tregaskis & Summit Wine Cellars

Fred Tregaskis first developed a passion for wine during his art school years, when he worked in the New York’s Hudson Valley vineyards. Years later, after working for a national wine magazine, he was given the opportunity to design and build a 28,000-bottle cellar for Lespinasse Restaurant at the St. Regis Hotel in New York—and in the process Summit Wine Cellars took root.

Tregaskis and Summit Wine Cellars have created dramatic custom wine cellars for clients throughout the world, from Maine to California, and Bangalore to Buenos Aries.

Tregaskis also writes about wine, conducts tastings and hosts a radio show on wine for NPR station WHDD/Robin Hood Radio based in Sharon Conn.
