A Moment In Wine Show 424 – Tyler Winery Pinot Noir Santa Barbara County CA 2017

Today we are going to the central coast of California, a beautiful area in Santa Barbara County, very famous for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.  Pinot noir is my favorite wine as it takes on the taste of the terroir in which it’s grown.

Pinot Noir is originally from the Burgundy area of France and can now be found in wine regions all over the world such as Australia, Germany, Italy, Chile and the United States.  Pinot Noir is very sensitive to the locale in which it is grown.

Today we are tasting a 2017 Pinot Noir from Tyler Winery which is located in Santa Barbara, California.  Winemaker Justin Willett started producing wine in 2005 and has fairly quickly made a name for himself in the wine industry.  Justin Willett picks his Pinot Noir grapes at night and then hand sorts the grapes the next day.  The grapes are then macerated on skins for 2 weeks before being pressed to tank.

In the glass, this wine has a pale to medium garnet color.  On the nose, there is a strong fruit such as wild cherries and spices with an earthy barnyard smell.  The taste is lots of fruit upfront, spices such as anise and vanilla flavors with a strong earthy, wild yeast flavor.  This wine will benefit from a little bit of time in the cellar.

This wine will be excellent with a roasted chicken or your Thanksgiving turkey.

About Fred Tregaskis & Summit Wine Cellars

Fred Tregaskis first developed a passion for wine during his art school years, when he worked in the New York’s Hudson Valley vineyards. Years later, after working for a national wine magazine, he was given the opportunity to design and build a 28,000-bottle cellar for Lespinasse Restaurant at the St. Regis Hotel in New York—and in the process Summit Wine Cellars took root.

Tregaskis and Summit Wine Cellars have created dramatic custom wine cellars for clients throughout the world, from Maine to California, and Bangalore to Buenos Aries.

Tregaskis also writes about wine, conducts tastings and hosts a radio show on wine for NPR station WHDD/Robin Hood Radio based in Sharon Conn.
